Week of September 9-13

 Hello 1st Grade Families,

Happy Monday!!!
I'm so excited for a great week. Your students are amazing. We had a great week last week and I'm excited to start another week. I'm so impressed with the progress we've made with procedures. Students are doing great lining up in their number order and walking quietly in the halls.  A few reminders:
1. Water bottles: Please send a water bottle with your student. It helps alleviate walking to the drinking fountain and missing valuable class time. Also, please send a water bottle that has a lid on it. We've had quite a few spills already because bottles don't have a cap that snaps back into place. Leak-porof water bottles would be ideal.

Week of September 3-6

 Hello 1st Grade Families,

Happy Monday. I hope you've all enjoying your Labor Day weekend. I hope your student had a great week last week and are excited to come back Tuesday.

Some housekeeping items that will help at school:
1. Please make sure your student uses the restroom before you leave for school. I have many that walk inside and then immediately need to go potty. Then it becomes a ripple effect.
2. Please make sure your student fills up their water bottle at home. Many bring an empty bottle to school and want to fill it up. This is becoming a distraction and taking time away from learning.
3. I know it’s mosquito season and the mosquitos are terrible this year. Please make sure, if your student has a mosquito bite, you treat it properly (ie: applying a bandaid, applying anti-itch cream, etc.) before sending them to school. I do my best with bandaids but sometimes this isn't enough.
4. If your child wears a dress to school please make sure to have them wear shorts under their dress.

A BIG THANK YOU to those who have donated money. I am so grateful for ALL your donations. It will help our classroom so much.

There are no birthdays to celebrate this week

Monday: No School
Tuesday: Bagel & Cream Cheese, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Uncrustable
Wednesday: Fruit and Yogurt Parfait, Cheese Burger, Uncrustable
Thursday: Sandwich, Chicken Alfredo, Uncrustable
Friday: Hungry Howie's Pizza, Uncrustable

September 27th: Dollar Dress Down Day

The theme for this year at Quest Academy is:
K I N D N E S S wins

We read the story of The Rainbow Fish. It was a perfect way to have a conversation about how if you want a friend, you need to be a friend.  Each one of the students made a beautiful Rainbow Fish that only ended up with one sparkle scale because he found joy in sharing the other ones!!

Before we can read, we need to be able to know the letters and sounds those letters represent!!
If your child is struggling with this skill, reach out to me and lets find some things you can be doing at home to help them master this very important skill.

We are working on using 10 frames, and place value using tens and ones.

We are getting procedures down but still have some work to do! We’ve done lots of beginning of year testing. I’m impressed with your students abilities to show what they know.

Have a great week. Please reach out with any questions.
